The Rise Of The Northeast - Your Two Cents

Erie residents in Weld County may be interested in the survey by Progressive 15, an organization that works on behalf of the economic interests of 15 counties in northeast Colorado. This region's growth will be decades in the making and challenge the "smart" growth and competitive standing of all of east BoCo.

On their site they have a link to a survey on the Northeast Colorado Regional Visioning Project. Weld County readers should chip in with their thoughts. If we think Broomfield is a monster, this is like godzilla. Not just because it is so big, but because it stomps around without a plan - County and municipal cooperation is nonexistent. This group is hoping to steer their godzilla a little bit more.

Kudos to those involved in Progessive 15 for starting the process.

Exactly what "smart" growth were you referring to, Dan? Cities in Boulder County limited growth, and it just drove the growth farther out. Thousands of acres of open space further drove development to the far reaches. May have been “smart” for our own selfish interests, but these actions contributed to the sprawl to the north and east.

Why is Broomfield too big? What’s the yardstick? Denver? Broomfield’s much smaller. Lafayette? OK, Broomfield will be quite a bit larger at build-out. But, comparing EastBoCo with Broomfield, I’d rather have one large entity doing the planning than a handful of smaller ones who won’t plan together.

If the northeast counties can begin to work together to plan for the entire region, only good can come from the process. Much better to have a cohesive regional plan than several inconsistent local plans.

I wish them success.

Wow, I thought if one went east past I-25, you fell off the edge of the earth. Does this mean folks may go east to spend their money rather than west into Boulder County? Isn't there a way to build a wall around the county to keep folks from straying?

We need visual barriers made of movie theaters, hardware stores and Big Lots to keep shoppers in East BoCo, just like the sight barriers for P-dogs. And good contraception techniques.

How about 3 or 5 story malls?
