Holiday Decorations = Fines

Can you beleive the quotes from various HOA officials in yesterday's Daily Camera re: the likelihood of fines for people who haven't taken down their holiday decorations? We just took ours down a week and a half a go; there are still lots of lights and a few wreaths and lighted animal frames, around my street, although no one's turning on the lights anymore. I also have a 5-ft snowbank in the cul-de-sac. Every day I am reminded of that 3-hour ride from Boulder on December 20...

Getting fined for delayed holiday light removal. Probably makes sense to the people endorsing Lafayette's increased pot possesion fees. Actually, is there anyone endorsing that now? It appears to have fallen out of blatant favor - however the Lafayette City Council will devote time at a study session to the issue.

I don't see the connection, sorry. Isn't there also a demographic of new age atheist pot smokers who object to Christmas decorations? Probably.

Take heart, you can always try to disband your HOA if they go all Pagosa Springs on you.

A tenuous connection for sure. It was my knee-jerk reaction to a nannyist mentality I see as part of both efforts. Some people just like to condemn other people - just because they can and they of course know what is "best" for the neighborhood, the world, etc., not because what the other person is doing is actually hurting anybody.

I would say all of us posting to this blog are guilty of that at some point - that's what makes the debates so compelling.
